On a stunning September’s day in the breathtaking surroundings of Lake Como, Italy, Katie and Nicholas exchanged wedding vows after meeting each other almost 20 years prior. We sat down with our real bride, Katie, to learn more about her childhood love-story, and rom-com worthy proposal, all about planning and styling her dream destination wedding, and why the first dress she tried on was ‘the one’.

Let’s go back to where it all began. When and how did you meet your significant other?

My husband and I first met back in 2005 when we were just 4 years old, both in the same prep class at school. It’s funny to think about it now, but that’s where it all began; just two little kids sitting in the same classroom. We grew up together, and our lives have been intertwined ever since. Little did we know back then that we’d end up building a life together, but here we are!

How did your now-husband propose?

My husband proposed in a romantic indoor setting inside our home, illuminated by the letters ‘MARRY ME’ and surrounded by scented red roses and soft glowing flickering candles. It was an intimate moment just for the two of us, filled with heartfelt emotion, making it unforgettable and nothing short of magical.

Was there a theme for your wedding? What inspired you while styling your dream day? 

Yes, the theme of our wedding was elegantly timeless, enhanced by accents of gold that infused a sense of luxury. Our floral arrangements featured soft white roses, delicate baby’s breath, and carnations, creating a romantic and serene atmosphere.

Getting married in the breathtaking surroundings of Lake Como, Italy, inspired us to embrace a sophisticated aesthetic. The stunning chandeliers and warm candlelight added to the intimate ambiance, creating the perfect setting for a day filled with love and beautiful memories.

What was the inspiration behind your bridal look?

The inspiration behind my bridal look was to capture the elegance and romance of Italy. I wanted a gown that reflected classic Italian style with its fitted shape and intricate lace details. The off-the-shoulder design and flowing veil added that timeless, romantic feel I was going for. It felt perfect for the stunning Lake Como setting, combining Italian charm with a touch of modern elegance.

Describe your ‘yes to the dress’ moment. How did you feel and what made you say ‘yes’?

The dress I chose was actually the first one I tried on. I went through a few others, but I kept comparing them all to that first one. When I initially put it on, I remember saying out loud, ‘I feel really pretty.’ That moment was special because, having struggled with self-confidence for so long, it was the first time I genuinely felt that way. I didn’t want to take it off, and that’s how I knew it was the one.

How was your experience at Eternal Bridal?

The highlight of our wedding day was undoubtedly the moment we exchanged vows. Standing there, looking into my husband’s eyes, surrounded by all the people we love, felt so surreal. It was as if time stood still, and everything we had been through led us to that exact moment. Promising forever to the person I’ve known since we were kids was incredibly emotional and meaningful. It’s a memory I’ll cherish forever.

If you could go back in time and give your newly-engaged self one piece of advice, what would it be?

If I could go back and give my newly-engaged self one piece of advice, it would be to savour every single moment. The planning process and the excitement go by so quickly, and it’s easy to get caught up in the details. But the real beauty is in the small, everyday moments with your partner, and remembering that this journey is about building a life together, not just a wedding day. Enjoy it, stay present, and trust that everything will come together perfectly.
